I am fortunate to live in an area where slurs like this are extremely uncommon and I have to admit that I re-read this multiple times because I just couldn't process that someone would write something that offensive. I kept thinking I was misinterpreting. I have no idea who this person is, but I know he is incredibly ignorant. I don't know if it is possible, but I hope he will be banned from the list

Welcome back to the US, right? I am nuking this message so that those
behind us will not have to read the trashy remark from this cretin who
wrote this response. It's gone and I'm sorry that you all had to put up
with this racial slur.

Have fun and just get out there & box

Yay! Bob Heasley has FINALLY been banned! He was the
cretin that threatened to remove a bunch of Ohio boxes
as retailation for his own stupidity. Good riddance!

In response to the question - I think that you have to be signed in as a
member to read the posts. So, since he is banned, he'll be out in the
cold - or at least this personna will be if it's another letterboxer in
disguise.
I want to go back to Dartmoor - cruel way to return to reality!! The
only thing we worried about there was to be sure we didn't hit any
sheep, cattle or wild ponies in the road!

Like Catbead, I signed out, went back to the yahoo groups page, &
searched for the letterboxing-usa page. The Archive _IS_ considered
Public, which means that even if one's banned from the list and/or
doesn't have a yahoo!groups ID, they can still read the posts. So,
be careful what you post...

RE: [LbNA] attn: Bob Heasley and Moderators

Not to open up a can of worms--but if this is all true and we really do have an active letterboxer who has threatened to sabotoge boxes in the past and is now angry because he has been kicked off the site--then maybe we want to reconsider the idea of needing to log on (password only, no $$) to find clues. Hey, but I'm just a newbie--what do I know?

in case you meet him on the trails.

As Armadillo Jo wrote, yes, this is the same person
who threatened to remove Ohio letterboxes because
someone had planted a box in Ohio, discovered that it
was planted near some allergic-reaction causing
plants, and removed the box & updated their clues, but
he went to look for the box without first checking the
clues to make sure everything was still current. I
had some personal correspondence with him about this
situation to try to determine why he'd react the way
he had.

Troll, yes, but he is also an active letterboxer.
Deedle & I have seen his stamp & signature in area
letterboxes, with dates as recent as August 2004
(we're from Cleveland, Ohio). He actually lives in
Sewickley, Pennsylvania, but evidently that's only a
few hours' drive away from areas of Ohio. And, if you
check letterboxing.org, he also has some of his own
plants out there.

So fellow boxers, proceed with caution in case you run
into him on the trails. I don't know what he looks
like, just what the stamp he uses in letterbox logs
looks like. I thought it important to share what I
know about him since he wasn't just some bored
trouble-maker looking to cause mayhem (as if we needed
any more here) - he was actually an active letterboxer
looking to cause mayhem.

Mark Pepe - question - even if he's banned from the
talk list, is he still able to access the post archive
directly from the yahoo groups site?

Doodle, hoping this ugliness is behind us and that I
_don't_ run into him on the trail...

Letterboxers wear Khakis. Or jeans. Or shorts, if they're not scared of poison ivy. And rainjackets when they're crazy enough to go 'boxing in a downpour. And sunscreen, bug spray, big backpacks to hold all those stamp pads and box first aid supplies and extra bug spray and their very important water, and good hiking boots, and...
